Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In Spring 2012 I will be heading to the Nepal to climb Everest from the South side, an expedition for which I have been seraching for funding and training for for nearly three years.

In Autumn 2009, I travelled to Nepal to trek as part of my Duke of Edinburgh award. On seeing Everest, the decision was made; despite having never set foot on a mountain, I was going to climb Everest.

After a year of training I spent my life savings on a week in the Alps and quickly progressed to the Himalayas, where I was fortunate to gain a world record on Baruntse which proved instrumental in allowing me to achieve funding for Everest 2011.

So, this is Everest take 2 after an unsuccessful attempt last year. I am hugely excited to be part of what is going to be a big year on Everest, and am honoured that Women for Women have asked me to support them and to carry a specially designed flag to the summit for them.

Women for Women are a small charity that help women affected by war to rebuild their lifes. They work in countries such as Afghanistan, Iraq and Rwanda to turn victims into survivors and empower them to become active citizens.

Over the past 18 years they have helped 300,000 women, benefiting 1.4 million community members in the process. So it's not just about women; it helps whole communities for multiple generations.

If you think climbing Everest is deserving of a few pounds for a fantastic charity then it would mean so much to Women for Women and I if you could give what you can, be it a couple of pounds or a hundred! Please, please dig deep!

About the charity

Women for Women International supports women who live in some of the world’s most dangerous places. Women enrol on the charity’s year-long training programme, where they learn how to earn and save money, improve their family’s health and make their voices heard at home and in their community.
