Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. My fiance Barry was 27 and we were due to be married on Sat 7th June 08, by which point we'd have been together just over 8 years. He was a happy, apparently healthy and reasonably fit young man. On 6th March this year (07) he kissed me goodbye and went out to play his usual game of footie with his mates. He never made it home. He collapsed on the field and despite all efforts by paramedics and A&E staff, he died. Cause of death is listed as Sudden Adult Death Syndrome.
CRY is a charity that works to raise awareness of these sudden deaths and runs a support networks for those of us who have lost someone in these circumstances.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to donate: Cardiac Risk in the Young will receive your money electronically and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in Gift Aid will be added to your donation at no cost to you.
Please donate as generously as you can but please also tell as many people about Barry and the many others like him who are taken from their loved ones so suddenly so that we can raise awareness of these conditions.
My first fundraising event was the Great Scottish Run 10K on the 2nd Sept. Three of my closest friends Emma Bacon, Kathy Boyling & Yvonne Lennon ran it with me and one of Barry's closest friends Alan Rogerson forged ahead to clock a fabulous time. They all ran to support this charity in Barry's memory. It was an emotional day and we were all shattered but thanks to them & everyone who sponsored/supported us, it is very much appreciated.
This year again I am running the Great Scottish Run 10K on the 7th Sept having completed the Womens 10k in May. May saw my friends Rachel Malone, Jennifer Shortt and Fiona Rankin running with me for CRY. For the GSR in Sept I will be accompanied by Jennifer Shortt, Rachel Malone, Leigh Brown, Lynn Harris and Kathy Boyling & we would all love to raise even more money to benefit CRY in Barry's memory.
