In February this year we lost our dear friend Barbara to cancer at the age of 57.
Captain Barbara Harmer's life story is truly inspirational; leaving school at the age of 15 to train as a hairdresser she soon set her sights much higher and started taking self funded flying lessons. In 1993 she flew into the history books as the world's first female Concorde pilot.
Barbara was looked after in her final months with outstanding care and compassion by St Wilfrid's Hospice in Chichester and three of us including Barbara's widower wanted to do something to give something back in Barbara's name.
To achieve what she did Barbara never did anything easy and recognised no hurdles. In this same spirit our chosen fundraising event had to be suitably challenging and something that all involved would have to work at extremely hard to achieve.
So, Land's End to John O'Groats on bicycles it is. At around 1000 miles we're aiming to complete the course in around 10 days. All three of us are doing all 1,000 miles - this is no relay - with the assistance of our mobile hotel (OK, campervan!) driver.
You'll be able to track our training and preparation progress soon on a dedicated website - we'll let you know when this is available. In the meantime very many thanks for your support.
