Beth Cox and Petra Blaskovics

As most of you know, Petra and Beth spent time volunteering at Azul Wasi in July/August 2011, and many of you very kindly donated money for us to buy equipment for the home while we were there. For a reminder about the home, and what we did with the money raised, please read Beth's blog entries (see links below). 

Based just outside the city of Cusco in Peru, Azul Wasi is a home for children who have suffered high-risk situations of abuse, neglect and child labour.  Currently the home as at full capacity, providing a stable home, education and opportunities for the future for 12 boys.

Since leaving Peru, we've been keen to continue supporting Azul Wasi and, through LAFF are looking to raise £2000 to fund a 'Profe' for the home for the next financial year. The Profe provides educational and pastoral support to the boys when Alcides is not at the home and his role is vital to the boys, both emotionally and educationally.

The salary is 700 Peruvian Soles a month, approximately £165. A year's salary is just under £2000 - hence our target amount. We need to raise this money at a rate of £165 per month, in order for the Profe to be paid on time.

Azul Wasi is an amazing environment for these boys and they truly thrive there – their last school reports were excellent due to the importance given to proper nutrition and education by the home’s director, Alcides.

In no small part, the happiness and stability for these children is due to the standard of care provided both by Alcides himself and the ‘Profe’ (a guardian and tutor).  We really want to support Azul Wasi in promising to provide the salary for the Profe for the coming year.  This is such an important role for the boys, as well as giving Alcides, a retired policeman, time to relax and to spend time with his own family.

We aim to raise £2000 which will provide the salary for this vital role for a whole year starting in April 2012. By committing to this ongoing cost, Alcides and the boys can feel secure that they need not worry about the future and standard of their care.

Azul Wasi – blaues Haus

Etwas außerhalb von der Stadt Cusco in Peru gelegen hat Alcides Jordan Cerda mit seiner Frau Mabel vor ungefähr 11 Jahren ein Heim für Jungen errichtet.

Teilweise sind die Kinder verwaist, wurden zur Arbeit gezwungen oder sind misshandelt worden. Momentan ist Azul Wasi ein zu Hause für 12 Buben im Alter von 5-18 Jahren

Wie die meisten von euch wissen haben Beth und ich vergangenen Sommer mehrere Wochen im Juli & August in diesem Heim als Volunteers verbracht und Spenden gesammelt. Innerhalb kurzer Zeit war es uns möglich eine neue Kücheneinrichtung, Betten inkl. Matratzen, Kleidung etc. zu kaufen. Es war ein wunderschönes Gefühl die glücklichen Gesichter der Kinder zu sehen als sie ihre neuen Matratzen bekommen haben.

Seit wir wieder von Peru zurück sind stehen wir in regelmäßigen Kontakt mit Alcides, dem Gründer von Azul Wasi. So haben wir erfahren, dass das Jahresgehalt des Tutors der die Jungs nachmittags nach der Schule und teilweise am Wochenende betreut nicht mehr von dem bisherigen Privatspender übernommen werden kann. Daher haben wir es uns zum Ziel gesetzt mit dieser Just Giving Page regelmäßige updates online zu stellen und für diverse Projekte für Azul Wasi weiterhin Spenden zu sammeln. Es ist uns sehr wichtig, das die Jungs und Alcides die Sicherheit haben das wir das Geld für den Tutor aufbringen können. Es ist erzieherisch und emotional sehr wichtig für sie ist und zudem gibt es Alcides die Möglichkeit Zeit mit seiner eigenen Familie zu verbringen.

Das Gehalt beträgt 700 Peruanische Soles im Monat, das sind ungefähr £165 (€205,-)

Azul Wasi ist ein tolles Umfeld für diese Jungs und gibt Ihnen die Möglichkeit ein Leben mit Stabilität und schulischer Bildung zu führen um später wenn sie auf eigenen Beinen stehen ein selbstbestimmtes Leben führen zu können.

Wir haben es selbst erlebt wie glücklich die Kinder dort sind und wollen dieses Heim von Herzen gerne weiterhin unterstützen. Unseren Teil tragen wir dazu bei, aber gemeinsam erreichen wir mehr. Wir haben uns für JustGiving entschieden, da es schnell und einfach in der Abwicklung ist. Zudem war das wichtigste Kriterium für uns, einen sicheren Transfer des Geldes zu ermöglichen ohne dabei Gebühren dafür bezahlen zu müssen. Die Spendengelder gehen direkt zu der Organisation LAFF (Latin American Foundation) die von ehemaligen Volunteers gegründet wurde und wird danach dem jeweiligen Projekt zugeordnet. Diese Organisation ist in London ansässig und ich stehe in regelmäßigen Kontakt mit Fran Talavera und Sara Oakes die ehrenamtlich dafür arbeiten. http://www.laffcharity.org.uk/
