Asian Way Round - Charity Bike Mission
Fundraising for Severn Hospice
Fundraising for Severn Hospice
This time last year, Simon's Mother/Chris's Mother In Law died after a pretty heinous year of suffering liver cancer with associated complications from brain tumours. Throughout this very tough last bed-ridden year of her life, she never failed to be loving and positive, which inspired us both to be proactive about (a) living life absolutely to the full and (b) doing something meaningful for the charitable nursing hospice she died at.
The wholly logical outcome to (a) and (b) is a six week enduro motorcycle treck around 'hidden' central Asia in support of the Severn Hospice www.severnhospice.org.uk.
Over the past ten months, motorbike tests have been taken and passed; two Aprilia 650cc Trail bikes purchased and accessorized; vaccinations painfully received; flights books; phenominal amounts of planning undertaken and arrangements made for exporting and return of the bikes.
The route which takes us through over 5,000 km of hidden Asia is Bangkok - Sukhothai and its temples - Chiang Mai and the Golden Triangle National Reserve - Fang Long-Neck-Tribe meeting - MyanMar Burmese visit - Chiang Rai/Chiang Saen/Chiang Khong - Chaloem Phra Kiat - into Laos - Louanphrabang - Plain of Jars - Vang Vieng - Tham Kong - right down the spine of remote Laos and into Cambodia - Phom Penh - Bokor National Park - Angkor Wat - Siem Reep Sihanoukville - Bangkok - home.
We leave for 6 weeks on 31st Jan 2010, if you would like to track our progress and the challenges we face along the way, please visit our joint Facebook page which we will be updating as often as possible at www.facebook.com/asianwayround.
This will be a story of two men and two bikes. We would massively appreciate your support to help raise £10,000.
Many thanks for any support you can give.
