So, a funny thing happened on the way to my thirties...
I became sporty.
Bizarre but true. The former book-worm, thespian, skeptical of all sports at both school and college, somehow, via business school and too many A-type out-doorsy American friends, seems to have discovered the joys of a fit body, the challenges of the out-doors and the sheer fun of running, biking, swimming, climbing, hiking, blading and other active verbs.
Joys that sadly, those blighted by arthritis, including my very lovely aunt Ann who has had the affliction since her late thirties, are completely denied.
So in a gesture that is aware, but hopefully not being disrespectful, of the irony, I'm using my attempt at the London Triathlon to raise money for the Arthritis Research Campaign. (more on: www.arc.org.uk)
The triathlon takes on Saturday 6 August. Whilst I've been keeping in reasonable shape, my training in earnest started in mid July, and I've been working between the day job and moving flat to hone each of the legs so I can complete the 750m swim, the 20k bike ride and the 5k run without disgracing myself or my cause...
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Arthritis Research Campaign will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now! Many thanks for your support - and hope to see you all at my housewarming/survival party that evening. Details will follow by automatic email.
best, Arvind
