Dear Art World in Istanbul,
As we explore the 14th Istanbul Biennale, brought together in the name of high culture communion, we cannot forget how sharply our existence contrasts with the increasingly volatile 'outside' world. We are 700 kms away from where the body of three-year-old Syrian child was washed up this morning. Aylan Kurdi died with his brother and mother, alongside countless others. Some have lost dearly and ALL are suffering gravely. Let's all take a moment to remember that WE, the art community, are not isolated or disconnected. Please make a donation to MSF, an organization that guarantees rescue teams in the Mediterranean. At the press conference yesterday, Carolyn Christov- Bakargiev stated, 'I'm in art because art has the possibility of shaping souls and shaping policies.' We have a voice as well as the means to help.
Thank you,
Nx
