Story
Art Exhibition for Japan
Following the earthquake and tsunami which devastated Japan over the last couple of weeks, two London-based designers have come together to bring you a special art exhibition to raise money for the Japanese earthquake and tsunami relief effort.
Marie Paysant-Le Roux invites you to discover her latest work inspired by her findings from Japan. From photographs to material experiments, you will travel through a number of creative colour stories.
Karen Hsu has created a one-off art piece by gathering her signature handmade pom-poms into a cherry tree. The cherry blossom is a very delicate flower that blooms for a very short time. For the Japanese, these flowers stand for the transience of life. In addition, Karen would like to use the cherry blossoms to recreate a Japanese tradition – Hanami (花見) – of enjoying the beauty of flowers.
There are two ways to donate: all donations and money raised from the exhibition will go directly to the British Red Cross which will then be used towards helping the Japanese people over the coming months and years; the second option is for those who can’t attend the exhibition, you can make online donations at www.justgiving.com/artexhibition/
The week-long exhibition will be held in the Basement Gallery at Pyrus in the Newburgh Quarter.
