Story
On May the 8th 2011 we'll be setting off from the UK, in style and in our trusty Morgan 4/4 sport, with the aim of driving right round the Meditteranean coast, starting at the beginning of the Med in Gibraltar and hopefully ending up 12000 miles and potentially 19 countries later back there!
We feel very lucky to be able to make this attempt, and as a way of paying back all those people who have helped and supported us, our driving wish is to raise awareness for two charities that have played an important part in both our lives - Dove House Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support. We chose these charities not only because of the great work and help that they have given to so many individuals and families that have been affected by cancer, but also because they have offered much needed support in the past to both our own families.
Macmillan Cancer Support and it's amazing nurses offered care and support to Tony's mum Moira Hunter over a number of years during her battle with cancer. She has fortunately now largely recovered and it is no small thanks to the encouragement and kindness of the Macmillan nurses who helped keep her spirits up through the long period of chaemotherapy.
Dove House Hospice has offered unforgettable support to Lisa's family in the past. Lisa's mum, Margaret Spratling lost her life to cancer at the age of 49, followed by her auntie Janet Morris (46) only a year later, after spending time in Dove House. This remarkable centre was opened by Diana the Princess of Wales and offers much needed support to families during difficult times.
On our return we aim to publish a book on all the interesting people we meet along the way, (attracted by the Morgan... and the two mad British people in it), and we plan to auction off photos, sketches and bits and pieces we've picked up on route in order to raise a further bit of cash. In the meantime if you'd like to help us reach our target of £5000 and make a donation to either of these very worthwhile charities, then please just click on the link below. Every little helps and is very much appreciated.
Many thanks and best wishes.
