So what's a bike and me got in common? It's obvious isn't it? Me and my bike are going to be travelling 400km across Kenya in 5 days in aid of 3 Cancer Charities.
By the time you read this information 1 woman will have died from ovarian cancer. It is the biggest gynaecological killer of women in the UK. 12 women die each day from the disease and the UK has one of the lowest survival rates of the developed world. Ovarian Cancer Action is dedicated to improving women’s chances of survival by funding research and raising awareness of the disease and giving a voice to women affected by it.
Every year 46,000 women and men will receive the devastating news that they have breast cancer. Breast Cancer Care wants to be there for every one of them, providing expert information and skilled emotional and practical support.
Nearly 3 women die every day in the UK from cervical cancer with 8 being diagnosed and facing an uncertain future. After breast cancer, cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women aged 35 and under. Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to women affected by cervical abnormalities and cervical cancer.
Trish Cowie and her friend Annie Scadden have made a pact that the wheels on their bikes keep turning as they join an amazing group of over 500 women taking positive action in the fight against cancer. Their challenge is to pedal the 400kms through the Rift Valley – from the slopes of the majestic Mount Kenya to the shores of the magnificent Lake Victoria over 5 days.
Part of their sponsorship will also go towards supporting a local Kenyan cancer trust called the Faraja Cancer Support Trust.
