Story
My nephew Oskar Richard Lister was born on 24th January 2011. He’s the love of my life and the idea that he might not have been with us doesn’t bear thinking about. During the last phase of her pregnancy, my sister had been diagnosed with obstetric cholestasis (OC), a condition that is associated with an increased risk of spontaneous premature birth, fetal distress and stillbirth. Awareness of OC is low yet so crucial to allow monitoring and management of the condition.
On 13th August I will be running “Midnattsloppet” in Stockholm, a 10km race that takes place at night. I’ll be trying to beat my previous personal best of 58.51! The money I raise will go to the Genesis Trust at Imperial College London to be used for research into the condition. Many thanks in advance for your support.
Obstetric cholestasis (OC) is a liver disorder that occurs during pregnancy, affecting about 1 in 200 pregnant women each year in the UK. The causes are not yet understood. With active management following diagnosis (which usually means treatment and choosing to deliver early) the risk of stillbirth in an OC pregnancy is believed to be the same as that for a normal pregnancy (1%).
