Sumatran Orangutan Trek · 20 April 2013

Since 1996 we have concentrated our work in animal rehoming, welfare and education to relieve the distress and suffering of unwanted and mistreated dogs and cats and ensure they all have the best opportunity to find their forever home. We rely on your kind donations and support, thank you!

Story

Hello, and thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. On Saturday, April 20, I begin a challenging charity trek into the Sumatran rainforest in aid of Mid-Antrim Animal Sanctuary. Over seven days and nights in Gunung Leuser National Park, I'll be helping raise money towards the sanctuary's work with abandoned and abused dogs and cats.

In case anyone thinks this is going to be some sort of 'free holiday', think again. I and my fellow adventurers will be hiking for up to seven hours each day, across rivers, over mountains and through dense forest. We will need to clear paths, build camp each night and find our own food in the jungle. The veggie options can't be any worse than they are in Belfast!

Thanks to friends and family putting up with me shaking them down for sponsorship once again, I've almost hit my fundraising target of £3,150. The money will go towards Mid-Antrim Animal Sanctuary's ongoing £600,000 rebuild project, as well as the sanctuary's general running costs, which can top £220,000 annually.

Thanks to everyone who has pledged money through JustGiving, and to the following for their generous cash donations:
