Story

Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page!

I am competing in the Bridge Midnight Iron Man competition( http://www.bridgetriathlon.co.uk/midnightman/ ). I will be doing a 2.4 mile open water swim, cycling 112 miles and then running a marathon all back-to-back. The race starts at 6pm on Saturday 18th August 2012 and goes through the night.

18 months ago I was alot heavier than I am now and could not run 50 metres. Since then I have shed weight and worked hard to train for this event.  I will be a few days from my 49th birthday on the day of the race. This will be my first ever competitive race since school. In my entire life I have never swum more than 1 mile, cycled more than 60 miles or run more than 9 miles. Even people on triathlon forums think this is a tall order (or as they put it, "you are mad").

However I am driven to raise funds for a very good cause.  My local parish has been a great source of comfort and inspiration for me and my family through some difficult years and I would now like to give something back.

This is to raise funds for the Eltham Christ Church Community Hall. This is a valuable resource for the entire community - and is urgently need of repairs and enhancement, including vitally needed creation of disabled access. Once renovated the hall be a focus for the community, providing a suitable space for events, classes, parties etc. The hall is attached to the Eltham Christ Church ( http://www.christchurcheltham.org.uk/ ).
