Story
On 22nd February 2015, the town of Scarborough lost one of it’s greatest sons, Andrew McGeown, 32, as he selflessly entered the cold rough North Sea in Scarborough’s South Bay whilst attempting to save his dog Arnold who was washed in by the tide. His parents know their son did not loose his life because he went in the sea to rescue his best friend, Andrew would have gone in the sea to try and rescue anyone that was in danger.
As the family start very slowly to come to terms with their lose and friends share memories of a character that was a practical joker and larger than life, fundraising is under way to ensure a legacy is created in memory of a popular member of the Scarborough community. Andrew’s parents Peter and Julie along with his siblings, Donna, Pete and Gary are working with the RNLI to ensure Andrew’s legacy continues through local Yorkshire Coast safety campaigns and that those that put their lives at risk in RNLI rescue vessels are supported.
