Money for Madagascar

Key facts

* 2m children between the age of 5 and 15 have to work to help provide for their families and do not attend school and many work in hazerdous employment like stone crushing in quaries

* 85% of population live on under $2 per day

* less thsan 50% of population have running water

* resent political unrest and natural disasters are causing poverty to deepen

(www.moneyformadagascar.org /http://moneyformadagascar.blogspot.com) has been supporting grass roots projects in Madagascar for 25 years. The aim of the charity is to provide financial support for small sustainable community projects led by the Malagasy people. In recent years, there has been a lot of political instability in Madagascar and this, paired with the global economic crisis, has plunged even more people into poverty. MfM provides funding in a number of different areas including Education, Health, Supporting Vulnerable People, The Environment and Sustainability, and Disaster Relief. 

 

My brother and I have decided to organise a fundraising challenge that will help to raise money for MfM. The event, which will take place on 27th August 2011 is a 270 mile cycle ride from my workplace at the Willis building in the financial district of London up to where I live in Liverpool. Hopefully we will do this in 3 days.

 

Whether it be 10p or £10  every little helps!
