Story
34 young British Muslims will spend five days hiking across the French Alps this June to raise thousands of pounds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) will embark upon a five day hike during which the 34 sponsored hikers will both camp and cook their own food for the duration of the trip. The participants intend to raise in excess of £20,000 for Macmillans who provide essential practical, medical, and financial support for the one in three Brits who suffer from cancer during their lives.
The hike is one of the many events organised by AMYA as part of its larger Charity Challenge 2012 Campaign which seeks to raise over £150,000 for a whole host of worthy charities.
''For Muslims, service to humanity is a religious duty. Islam requires its followers to help those in need and to alleviate the suffering of people, regardless of their age, gender, race and religion. It is for this reason that we are delighted that 32 young British Muslims have taken out five days from their busy lives to raise thousands of pounds for those suffering from cancer. AMYA and the participants of the hike are meeting all of the costs of the trip, enabling us to donate 100% of the money raised to Macmillans.''
''We have been working with Macmillans for several years now, having already had the opportunity to raise thousands of pounds for their fantastic cause through a number of great fundraising events.''
''Whilst raising money for charity is our primary concern, we also hope that the continued enthusiasm shown by so many young British Muslims to raise money for British charities goes some way to making a positive and lasting difference. Admitedly, there are some misguided Muslims hell-bent on misspresenting Islam as a religion intent on harming others, but we are standing up and presenting what we believe to be the authentic, peaceful, and consciensous reality of Islam and its followers.''
The participants have already been preparing themselves for the event by holding a hike to the summit of Snowdonia, the highest mountain in Wales, in early February. AMYA and its hikers are now looking forward to the big event and desperately need your donations to help them raise as much money as possible for Macmillans.
