Story
The quote with the picture above orginally said by Ella: "Oh my god! We're on a beach in Devon and we're going to see Muse!"
Now you can read it as "Oh my god! I'm running the 10k in May and you'd better sponsor me!" .... :)
Ella - a best friend from school who I am running the 10k in memory of, and raising money to continue an ambition of hers to work towards improving the experience for young people fighting cancer.
Ella spent over 100 nights in hospital whilst she was being treated for cancer. Too old to be treated on a childrens ward she had to be looked after on adult wards where nearly everyone else was significantly older (they really were, she was bringing down the average age by a good 30 years). The reality of this was that she often felt isolated and alone and felt like she stood out - at a time in her life when she wanted to just fade into the background.
Ella was passionate about getting a unit for teenagers set up in Bristol - where young people aged 18-24 could be treated together and the facilities and surroundings would be suitable and supportive for people of that age.
So that is why there's over 100 of us running the 10k on 5th May, to try and help raise money for the TCT south-west appeal and get a teenage cancer unit in Bristol. Go on, give us a sponsor.
