We help stroke survivors to find strength through support.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

A few years ago my Dad had 2 strokes, a small TIA in August 2009, followed by a full blown stroke in October 2009, I remember driving home from uni to find my uncle waiting for me to tell me what had happened. I drove up to the hospital and was put in the family room with my mum and two aunts. 15/20 minutes later the doctor came in to us "We've had to put Ian in a medically induced coma and he's on a ventilator. I'm sorry but there is only a 20% chance he will survive this, if he does he's going to have severe disabilities".

Walking in the hospital next day we didn't know what we were going to find. Despite the odds the doctors gave us, we walked into ICU to find him sat up eating chocolate biscuits the nurses had given him (the nurse even told us she wasn't used to feeding "perfectly fine" people in ICU). He survived and by some miracle with no major disabilities.

My Dad was extremely lucky byt I am fully aware that strokes kill far too many people everyday so I want to help in any way I can. Nearly 4 years to the date, I will be participating in a charity Zip slide which is 250m long, starting from The Imperial War Museum, Manchester and ending across the other side of the Manchester ship canal at the Lowry. Should be "fun"....especially considering I HATE "thrill" rides and anything like this...and not especially fond of heights either. So give me a reason to do it, sponsor me for however much you can spare!
