Liam, from Tyne and Wear, was born 10 weeks premature and because of this he has Cerebral Palsy affecting his legs.  He is unable to walk unaided for more than a few meters. 

He has had an assessment at Leeds General Hospital with the Neurosurgen who has confirmed that Liam is an ideal candidate for an operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR).  The operation involves opening the spine, and cutting the nerves that are sending the wrong signals from the brain to the legs, which will remove all the tightness Liam has.   

For Liam walking is like you running a marathon  as it takes so much effort for him.  Without this operation, Liam will steadily lose mobility and will eventually need a wheel chair.  The operation will change his future allowing him to grow alongside his friends, have the same opportunities, and to live an independent life. 

Liam is such a happy boy and always brings a smile to peoples faces.  He has inspired us so much with his positive attitude and how much hard work he puts into his daily routine of exercise and stretching.  So, we ask you to help Tree of Hope support Liam for his operation and any post-operative care he may need.

 

Should we exceed the target (or if we do not raise enough, or if they cannot be used for any other reason) the funds will go to the general funds of Tree of Hope to help other sick children.
