I am running the London Marathon in April 2024 in memory of my Grandma Shereen.
What a journey it’s been to try and run this since I signed up in 2018. I’m now a Mama and haven’t run in over two years. So it’s time!
I wrote the below in 2018:
My darling Grandma died in March 2018 after she had suffered for years with a muscle-wasting condition. Muscular Dystrophy UK both supports families and people suffering with these conditions as well as conducting research to try and fight this condition.
Personally, I have learnt that grief is a strange process and I decided that to honour my Grandma, I would push my mind and body more than ever before. I have never run more than 10km, I am flat-footed and asthmatic, so 42km (26.2 miles) is really going to be a huge challenge but I know I will do it in memory of one of the fiercest women I have ever met. In her last weeks my sassy Grandma struggled to speak and that’s why it’s so important to me to raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy UK - as they work hard to try and beat these muscle-wasting conditions.
My Grandma's fire taught me how to be sassy and strong, and I am named after her, Alicia-Shereen. One of the little things we always did, as I was the only Granddaughter, was to paint my nails and my Grandma always looked immaculate, so I will also make sure I am semi-fabulous (I get too sweaty to look fully-fabulous) and have a #teamorange manicure done before!
Please sponsor and support a brilliant cause: Muscular Dystrophy in memory of my Grandma Shereen.
*** Don’t forget to add Gift Aid – it doesn’t cost you anything, it just means a little bit from ALL that tax you pay goes to a good cause!
Muscular Dystrophy UK is the charity for 70,000 people living with muscle-wasting conditions. Were making a difference today, providing vital information and support to help people live as independently as possible. Were making a difference for tomorrow, accelerating progress in research and driving the campaign for access to emerging treatments.
