Story

Welcome to our 'albaglen' fundraising website!!!

In May 2012, I will be walking with Mike Winn as part of a series of hillwalking activities to raise money for Glencraft which includes a coast-to-coast walk from Inverie to Aberdeen, covering over 200 miles of terrain including some of Scotland's highest mountains, a 'Ben Nevis' day and a three-day Braemar to Aberdeen challenge.

Glencraft is a social enterprise based in Aberdeen.  As a business manufacturing and supplying high quality mattresses, divans and furniture, for 150 years it has employed crafts people with a wide variety of abilities and disabilities.

In 2009 the factory closed and the business entered administration.  This was devastating for the staff, most who had no opportunity to find employment.  Thanks to the local PSN business, and the kindness of the Aberdeen community, it is now up and running again.  However, it still really needs help to build the foundation for its long terms future.

So that is 'why' we are doing it; so ''what' are we doing?

For the coast-to-coast, after making our way to Mallaig (by train - not walking!), we will be getting a ferry across to Inverie in Knoydart.  The cross-Scotland walk from there on 01 May:

Days 1-3: Wildcamping each night, the first part of the walk is across the Knoydart wilderness to get to Fort William.

Days 4-5:  At Fort William, over 30 friends and colleagues will meet to walk up Ben Nevis. This should be a great day other friends of Glencraft will also be joining to take part.

Days 6-9: Mike will then be 'bagging' some more Munros around Nevis, carry on across the range to Loch Ossian, through Kinloch Rannoch, Blair Atholl and rough-camping through Glen Tilt to Braemar.

Days 10-12: Meeting up with more colleagues, we will walk through Balmoral to Ballater, then Banchory then home to Aberdeen.  Hopefully joined by even more fundraising colleagues and friends to the finish!

All in all, a bit of an adventure.  Though feet will be wrecked and legs will be tired, it is a worthy cause, so please, please help up meet and exceed our target.  Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
