We raise SUDEP & epilepsy risks awareness to prevent deaths & support those bereaved

Story

On 2nd January 2010 we lost Alan to SUDEP (Sudden unexpected death in epilepsy), he was only 29.

Alan had lived with epilepsy for serveral years however he refused to let it stop him from achieving anything in life. Alan achieved a 1st class Honours and a Masters degress, travelled to many different countries, both with friends and alone, played football and had an incredible passion for music. Alan was an amazing brother, son and friend whom we love and miss every day.

Epilepsy Bereaved is a charity which relies on donations in order to maintain the work and support they provide to families affected by an epilepsy related death. They raise awareness through education and also promote research into SUDEP. As a family we discovered Epilepsy Bereaved since our loss and we ask that you donate whatever you can afford in order to help the charity in the hope of preventing other families from suffering as we are.

See below for details of fundraising events;

Scottish Half Marathon – Sunday 27th May 2010

On Sunday 27th May 2010 a group of us, including Alan’s mum Christine, Alan’s sisters Lorna and Jacqui, and Alan’s brother in law Bryan, kicked off the fundraising events by taking part in the Scottish Half Marathon. All competitors successfully completed the course and some good times were achieved. Naturally some well deserved refreshments were consumed afterwards.

In excess of £10,000 was raised thanks to generous sponsorship!

Ben Lomond Sponsored Walk - Saturday 4th September 2010

On Saturday 4th September 2010, we celebrated Alan’s 30th birthday, together with Alan's friends, by undertaking a sponsored walk of Ben Lomond with the proceeds going to Epilepsy Bereaved.

Over 100 of us tackled the Munro on this sunny Saturday morning with almost all reaching the summit. A ferry was even laid on for the occasion and on our return to Lochwinnoch some well earned refreshments were supplied by Sandy & Co at the Corner Bar. A great effort by all on what was an excellent day and a fitting way to celebrate Alan’s birthday.

Thanks to your help we reached our Ben Lomond Goal of £20,000!

The Swish - Saturday 27th November 2010

A great night was had by all the girls who went along to Brisbane Hotel, Largs on a very cold and snowy day for a fun night of clothes swapping, good food and dancing, all in aid of Epilepsy Bereaved and MacMillan Cancer Research.

The Missing Swimmers - Saturday 11th December 2010

The whole family and all Alan’s friends made it along to see Alan's favourites 'The Missing Swimmers' perform at a charity gig for Epilepsy Bereaved at Nice and Sleazy's, Glasgow. Cheap drink, stale sweat and Teamy DJ’ing ensured a great night for everyone…apart from poor Bryan who had to endure a night of sobriety before heading off to work a night shift!

The proceeds from these two events helped us reach the incredible figure of £25,000!
