Story
Thank you for visiting The Grand Crew's fundraising page.
The Walk took place on 19/20 July 2008, and our Grand Crew Team lost three men of the four to injuries after 60km, but Linden Wilkie successfully completed the walk in 30hr 41min and few more seconds after teaming up with two others from two different teams who had also lost all thier team members! Hurraaah!
We knew this would be a challenge but having taking part in the event, we now realise the challenge is an enormous one, much bigger than we could have ever anticipated... walking up and down the hills on lots of chalk and sharp flint surface which feels like broken pieces of sharp glass; sleep deprivation; the need for headlamps to see just a few yards in front of you, etc. Hats off to our trekking boys. As one of the Supporters, I'm so very proud of all of you.
This page is active until 20 October 08, so please keep donating for the Gurkha Welfare Trust and Oxfam. Thank you.
Previously known as The Wandering Winos , we're going to walk 100km in less than 30hrs to fundraise for Oxfam and the Gurkha Welfare Trust.
What will your donations do? £6 can pay for an amazing 100 school dinners for children, encouraging them to go to school to learn to read and write - some food for thought! / £12 buys two dozen chickens (isn't that a KFC family bucket?) / £35 can buy a Solar Powered Water Pump & Filter System to bring clean and safe drinking water to some of the most remote places on the planet where needed.
So please dig deep & sponsor us! Every penny will be used wisely.

ABOUT US - We consist of 'The Trekkers' & 'The Pamperers'!
The Trekkers will try their hardest to trek 100km in less than 30hrs - the brave guys are Linden Wilkie, Charles Morgan, Bryan Colins & Peter Price.
The Pamperers / Motivators - Aiko, Nicki (Bryan's soon-to-be-wife), Tom Blach, Sonu Shamdasani and Pamela Wood (Linden's mum who'll be visting the UK) will pamper , motivate , and may even kick ass on occasions to ensure that The Trekkers have all the food/water and encouragement needed to keep going after 25hrs, no sleep and still 15km to go!
The Training So Far 08 March 08 - Marlow to Windsor (Resisting 'The Waterside Inn' restaurant - optional): Linden, Charles, Bryan, Nikki and myself began our group training on this scenic route, with Peter joining us half way. The Boys managed 18miles, and the Girls 16miles, averaging just under 3miles/hr. Our bodies were aching the next day, and many suffered blisters but we will carry on! A special thanks to Charles for super-fantastically organising the training! And yes, we did managed to resist The Waterside Inn across the river , and had our packed sandwiches overlooking the marvelous eatery! Hurrah!
We'll keep you updated in any group trainings as we can. Individuals are also preparing training personally. Thumbs up especially to Bryan who is busy also preparing for their forthcoming wedding this Easter. Congratulations!
PS - Linden and I managed a full 8hr training walking & lifting at IKEA the other day! Hee hee A lot more stressful than the Marlow - Windsor training without the super planning of Charles Morgan, but we did survive!
UPDATE on MORE TRAINING by Aiko
Individual trekkers have been training on their own accord for sometime, except Linden & perhaps Bryan a little! Both had a different but very valid reasons - he was on his honeymoon with the lovely Nicki most part of May - congratulations! And Linden? Having done his back in , he's been out of training action for the whole month of May. Thankfully, Linden's back is now probably better than before his back injury thanks to his lovely Osteopath. So with no further adieu, 'go go go!' Trekkers.
02 June 08 - Trekkers Charles, Bryan and Linden were accompanied by Tom from the support team and a good friend Mr Rupert Rokeby-Johnson for a training between Checkpoint 2 and 4 on the Trailwalk route (the walk has 10 checkpoints between start to finish point). This is possibly one of the toughest routes on the Walk, with the steepest hill of the walk and rocky terrain - yikes but the team survived - well done! The training was good in more than one way - the team is getting used to the actual route and beginning to understand their group pace, how much and how often to eat and drink during the trek! I understand that an idea for Foe Gras sandwich and low alcohol sweet wine was discussed at some stage! How about that!
06 June 08 - Trekkers Charles, Bryan and Linden tackled the part of Trailwalk route closer to Brighton today. Fromwhat I heard from Linden, it sounds like the team is feeling more confident about their walk, as they experience different terrains and get more practise in. Linden was certainly more energetic today than when he came home from the previous training: He was simply tired the after the last training, but full of smiles after this one. All seems to be going in the right direction. Well done guys - keep it up!
The next group training is planned on 19 June.
