Update 3/6/09: I did it! It was hard work but worth it. A brilliant day - great atmosphere, fabulous weather and beautiful scenery. Thanks to everyone who has so generously donated to the cause, I greatly appreciated the support. And there's still time to donate if you haven't yet!
It's like this: My fitness is at an all time low thanks to many months of feeling too rough to change TV channels let alone do any exercise. Something needs to be done so I might as well raise some money while I'm doing it. Why Breast Cancer Care?
Well, in October 07 I was told I had breast cancer. It comes out of the blue, it's a big shock. In this age of the internet I went for information to the Web and one of the first sites I found was Breast Cancer Care, and I used many of their services over the following months. Their online forums were invaluable - any query I had, there was always someone who'd been there before and could answer or reassure. What side effects can I expect from the chemo drugs? When will my hair fall out? How do I tell people? That kind of thing and more.
Their Headstrong service gave me the opportunity to try on hats and headscarves and find the ones that would suit me best in my approaching baldness.
And I attended several of their information sessions which provided the opportunity of meeting others going through the same thing, as well as providing lots of useful info.
It can be lonely out there in Cancerland but BCC provides vital support and services to help women (and men) come to terms with their diagnosis and get through their treatment. By contributing you will be helping to make sure that the 46,000 people diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the UK, along with their friends and family, get the support and information they need, when they need it most.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Breast Cancer Care gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
