Story
On August 8th I shall set off from Trafalgar Square in London for the first leg of my 3 day, 730km marathon cycle to Frankfurt, finishing at my family home well past nightfall on August 10th. The trip will run as follows:
Day 1: London to Dover - 135km
Day 2: Calais to Brussels - 215km
Day 3: Brussels to Frankfurt - 380km
The reasons for doing this are plenty. The company that I now work for, ROARR Rallies, has been supporting Women in Need for many years now. During my recent trip to India with ROARR, upon attending a Buddhist festival with the Dalai Lama I was struck by just how awfully debilitating leprosy can be, both physically and socially; and needlessly so, since medication now exists to manage the disease. It just simply isn't accessible to the impoverished. Everything you donate here goes towards furthering Women in Need's work in India, helping to raise the quality of life of leprosy sufferers.
I am also doing this because I want a challenge; I want to push myself further than I have been before, to break through my physical limits. Day 3 in its own right will be 150km longer than I have ever cycled in one day. It will be the toughest ride of my life, and I cannot wait. The last 3km to my home is a horrendously steep hill-climb...a great way to finish off the day!
