We’re the world’s leading independent conservation organisation. And we’re building a future where people and nature thrive together. That’s why we’re passionate about sharing the planet’s resources more sustainably, tackling climate change and protecting endangered wildlife.

Story

My big ambition for 2012 is to complete at least one triathlon.

We all need big ludicrous goals in life, don’t we?

I’ve taken the plunge (arf) and entered the London Triathlon in September.

Why "Neuf-tathlon"? Well, one triathlon didn't seem quite enough of a challenge, so now I'm signed up to do three! From a little one in Winchester in May, all the way up to the biggie in London in September.

To add a little frisson of pressure, I’m aiming to raise £500 for WWF (natch).

In my favour:

1. I have a few friends that do triathlons who are happy to give me pointers, suggestions and, frankly, grief.

2. I’m not a bad cyclist. I’m pretty comfortable on a 55 mile club run, averaging 16-17 mph.

3. My mate Si bought me a copy of Joe Friel’s “Your first tri” as background reading.

4. I’ve got a few months to get ready

But:

1. I hate swimming

2. I’m not a great fan of running

3. I have a young family, so don’t have hours and hours to train

4. I look silly in a wetsuit

If you’re feeling generous and would like to give me a morale boost by chipping in a pound or two, please donate to a great cause!
