Story
In 2011 I received treatment for bladder cancer in a number of departments at Addenbrooke's. In 2012 the cancer returned. For all treatments I have received invaluable support and care by a wide range of dedicated staff.
In order to give something back and to raise funds for invaluable resources and services for cancer care, 3 global team half or full marathon runs were undertaken on the 3rd March 2013. One team ran in the Cambridge Boundary Run in the UK. A second team ran in freezing temperatures from Waterloo in Ontario Canada to Cambridge Ontario. A third ran along the Monterey Coast in California in the USA. All runs were successfully completed.
Dedicated runners that joined the teams included Peter Davison, Dylan Harper, Glenn Harper, Mark Harper, Elin Kelsey, Cheryl Joseph, Richard King, Christopher Miller, Tracey Miller, Nasif Nijabat, Dan Read, Monica Read, Simon Read, Jamie Richardson, Rebecca White, Nick White and Andy Williams. There were also team trainers and supporters including Kathryn Harper,Janice Harper, Sylvie Harper, Nicki King, Nick Read and Shona Rodger. Thank you to everyone for all your efforts on the 3rd March and for all extraordinary donations and kind words that will go to help so many people.
"Like all the other runners running with Simon Read for ACT on March 3rd, my husband and I are running because we admire Simon himself for running this and hugely support his objective to give something back for his cancer care. It is a bonus for us that we are running for Addenbrooke's as we too are grateful to Addenbrooke's and the Rosie Hospital who looked after our daughter in 2011 when she was in special care for a week after she was born". Rebecca and Nick White.
(Rebecca actually won the full marathon on the 3rd in a run with hundreds being the first female to cross the line in the UK. Nick was the 4th fastest male and overall runner on the day)
