Story
As you will probably already know if you've reached this page, Acoustic Sussex is focusing a number of cancer awareness and fund-raising events around a concert in Sussex on 27th January 2007 by US singer songwriter, Beth Nielsen Chapman. This page enables you to give money specifically to just one of the three charities we are supporting - St Catherine's Hospice in Crawley, Sussex.
About Beth...
Beth has released five albums, including her groundbreaking Sand & Water album, written and recorded following the death of her husband from cancer in 1994. This record is often used as a tool for healing through grief (the title song was performed by Elton John on his 1997 U.S. tour in place of Candle In The Wind to honour the memory of Princess Diana). Just as she was putting the finishing touches on her subsequent release "Deeper Still", Beth was diagnosed with stage-two breast cancer. Successfully treated over the next twelve months, she went on to release the record and made it a point to speak about her experience and encourage women to be vigilant in caring for their health. It was voted Album Of The Year by BBC2's Terry Wogan.
Beth likes to support these kinds of activities (she calls it "philanthropic touring"!) and has helped with several ideas for this event, including the auction of a signed guitar - something she has done before in the US. (The auction closes on 28th January - visit our website for more details, at: www.acousticsussex.org.uk.)
