Raising money for food for Kenyan schoolchildren
Fundraising for Loughborough Students Rag
Fundraising for Loughborough Students Rag
Hey guys,
In a burst of insanity last term I decided to do a sponsored skydive for a cause that means a lot to me.
As most of you know, last year I spent 6 months teaching at a primary school in Kenya.
Seventy children at the school only eat one meal each day.
It was obvious which pupils these were from their weight, school grades, and attention spans. I knew a lot of children who, whilst their friends were playing at break, would just lie and sleep on the grass. Without food, they have no energy and cannot concentrate on schoolwork.
We are setting up a food programme where these seventy children will receive a free lunch every school day. The parents of the children will be employed as cooks, thus putting money back into the families and local community.
We currently have funds to run this for about two terms. After that, we'll have little option but to stop.
25p pays for one child's lunch.
£15 will feed a child for a term.
£45 will feed a child for a year.
Between May - June 2010 I am going to be doing a sponsored skydive with my university, jumping out of a ridiculously high plane somewhere near Nottingham.
If you could donate anything you can, either on here or when you see me, I, and the children in Kenya, would appreciate that so much. This website (JustGiving) is completely secure, and all of the money goes directly towards food and wages for the cooks.
Thank you.
