Story
This year, the University of Birmingham Islamic Society is dedicating its charity week to the East Africa drought, and will be donating all of the money raised to help the lives of the many starving people in Somalia. Somalia has gone through a major civil war during the past 20 years and this has had catastrophic repercussions on the population, leaving it in a considerably worse state compared to other neighbouring countries affected by the drought. To put this into perspective, 1 in 5 children die before their 5th birthday. Roughly 4 million people are in need of food aid in Somalia with 750,000 are at risk of dying before the end of the year.
One of the components of charity week will be a trek of Cedair Idris, an 893m tall mountain in Snowdonia National Park, Wales on the 17th of November. Please donate to the cause through my Just Giving page so we can collectively raise as much money as possible to provide aid to the famine in Somalia.
