Comic Relief
is only a few weeks away and I am looking to do ‘something funny for
money’. There are many of you who’ll remember my hitch-hiking exploits around Yorkshire with ‘The Fridge’ two years ago; and a number of you sponsored me to enable us to raise over £2000. ‘The Fridge’ is making a come-back and, this year, I will be attempting to get ‘The Fridge’ from the source of the River Nidd, to the confluence of the River Ouse
and out to the North Sea, via The Humber Estuary.
My class will be constructing a raft for me to use somewhere on the Nidd; York Rowing Club are lending me a rowing boat to row through York and Ashville's Headmaster himself is joining me in York to give me some pointers on how to row for Oxford! We’ll be endeavouring to row The Fridge from St Peter’s Steps to Naburn Lock, on the Ouse.
I am hoping that you might be able to help in more ways than one. I would like to travel along the Ouse to The Humber by motor boat, rather than row! If any of you know someone with a motorised boat, or own one yourself, and would consider lending it to ‘Comic Relief’ on Thursday 23 March and Friday 24 March, I would be very appreciative!!
As many of you know, I’m usually up for a challenge, or a laugh; and if you could think of a challenge that is close to the two rivers, for a gift-aided contribution, I would try to fit it in over those 2 days. You might want to sponsor me per mile as to how far I can get down the rivers. You might want to sponsor me for the number of times I end up in the water!! I’m sure some of you will be very imaginative with your challenges.
