Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running the London Marathon to support Shiv, the son of my colleague Manoj Thakrar, and his family in their fight against DMD, and to raise fund for the "Smile with Shiv" campaign and Muscular Dystrophy UK to support ground-breaking research towards the treatment and cure of DMD.
Shiv was diagnosed with a life threatening condition two years ago called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). It means his muscles will get weaker over time, which will affect his ability to walk, to move his upper body and even cause breath and heart complications. It is an incredibly rare genetic condition and currently has no cure.
But there is hope to find a drug that could help him. Manoj and his family have started the "Smile with Shiv" campaign to fight and raise as much funds as possible for research. They are working with the national charity Muscular Dystrophy UK, who ensures the funds raised go to research projects seeking a cure and looking for treatments for DMD. You can find more about the "Smile with Shiv" campaign at their website (www.smilewithshiv.org).
I have decided to take on the challenge of running a Marathon for the first time on 24th April 2016 in London and raise at least £750 to help Shiv finding a cure to DMD. Please support me for this great cause!
