Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
At the age of 50 I celebrated in style with an amazing party and the world at my feet.
Just one year later my world came crashing down around me when I was diagnosed with Inflammatory breast cancer, grade 2, stage 3 in June 2013.
For those that know me well, the option to wallow in self pity is not for me. I am blessed with having a wonderful sister Joanne Milne who will be doing the ride with me and who is my rock and support. Along with 2000 other ladies. .
Also, there will be many other amazing women I have cycled with when I completed cycle china, Karen and Norma to name just a couple in 2011
My road ahead is difficult and until 'Ride the Night' in May 2014 will be a challenge in itself, 9 sessions of chemo, followed by a mastectomy in january, followed by 6 weeks of radiotherapy every day, followed finally with a reconstruction. By the time May comes I hope to be coming out of the otherside with just the reconstruction to go.
Therefore the ride is somewhat a secondary challenge as I know that when I complete it I will be well on the way to my recovery.
8% of woman suffer from breast cancer and there is still not enough research and education about this deadly desease which I call 'my bastard cancer' because that is what it is.
It won't get the better of me. I will beat it and 'Ride the Night' will be my celebration night.
I hope you will be able to support this quest, not just for me but for the 8% of women who will be diagnosed and have their own battle ahead.
I feel proud to join the first women-only night cycle challenge and raise funds to fight breast, cervical and ovarian cancers. The challenge is on to cycle 100km throughout the night past many of London's most famous landmarks.
Many of you will have been touched by or know someone who has already suffered from these terrible cancers that affect women in your life.
My blog will tell you more of my story: wendyyil.blogspot.com
