Story
Wow! I have reached Everest base camp at over 17,000 feet! It took a huge effort, but now I am looking over a spectacular glacier high on Everest’s slopes! What a sight and well worth it!
I am now in Kunde village, home of Tenzing Norgay the Sherpa who summited Everest with Sir Edmund Hillary. It's hard work, we are already at 12,672 feet - 5,000 more to go! Spectacular scenery -the trekking is superb!!
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I'm off to Nepal on 7th April 2011 to start a trek to Everest Base Camp on 9th April 10 days of ascending from 9,317 ft in Luqla to 17,600 ft at Base Camp. 4 days of descent. A real challenge for mind and body and health, hoping to avoid any issues with altitude sickness. I've been training hard and hope to make it - our group gets to spend a night in the Base Camp, not usually an option so we are very privileged. Imagine that, sleeping at the top of the world at 17,600 ft!
I'm trying to raise money for the children that Christel House supports around the world. The goal is to change their lives and their families' lives for ever through education, nutrition, medical care and nurture. Read how we do it at www.christelhouse.org
100% of all donations goes direct to the kids, no deductions whatsoever! Every penny can help us, £1000 can cover the cost of medical and psychological care for 90 kids for a year. Or clothing and shoes for 50 children. Or equip 2 classrooms (60 kids) with books, paper, pencils, pens etc.
Join me in spirit on this adventure - whatever you can manage to donate will make a real difference for these children, they come from the slums and have nothing, when they graduate from our schools they are transformed into contributing members of society and the cycle of poverty is broken. Forever.
Please help, donations large and small, pounds or pennies are all welcome! Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity. Donors in the US can find details of tax efficient giving on the Christel House website.
So please dig deep and donate now. Thank you so much, I will update you on progress hopefully through the trek, communications permitting; if not of course at the end.
