Story
I have taken two decisions:
First I want to do something for women who have been the subject of abuse. It is a widespread problem that affects women and girls around the world. Most victims will live on without speaking up, instead carrying their scars in silence. Society is making progress, bit by bit, but not enough. I want to make a difference, knowing enough about the subject to appreciate the need.
Second, I will go and do something way outside of my comfort zone. So I signed up for the Papua Expedition, which is about as far away from the normal "all inclusive" vacations that I have become accustomed to.
I found a wonderful group of exceptional women who once a year sign up for something daring. And they connect it collective raising money for a cause that I care deeply about.
Please support me in raising money for this extraordinary cause. We will pay of course for the trip ourselves, so all of your donation goes to Women for Women International. This is a non-profit humanitarian organization dedicated to financial, educational, and interpersonal support of women survivors of war, poverty, and injustice.
If you’d like to know more about the the good work of this organisation look at https://www.womenforwomen.org.uk/ or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iarxgcit0gU
Your giving spirit is needed. As a team, we're aiming to raise S$100,000 SGD. That will take many helping hands to make it happen.
UPDATE: In view of the security situation in Papua the decision has been taken to change our destination. Some kind of journey, different geography. We will be visiting the Mentawi tribe, also known as the "Flower People' of Indonesia. The Mentawi are the native people of Pulua Siberut, a little island of the Western coast of Sumatra. I am in the process of getting fit, have bought most of my gear, got my vaccinations, still figuring out the size of the mosquito net. Thanks all for your support, so pleased to everybody's contributions.
