Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am trying to raise funds for one of my favourite Charities, Aberdeen- based CLAN which provides so much support to individuals and families affected by cancer in NE Scotland.
At the end of 2003, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and following surgery and radiotherapy treatment and 5 years of cancer-free checks I was starting to believe I had beaten the disease. Unfortunately at the end of 2008, we found out that the cancer had spread to my bones, meaning the disease was now terminal.
Since my primary diagnosis I have been involved in a number of fundraisers - £770 for 'Friends of Anchor' at my 50th birthday party through friends kind donations instead of gifts; £2,000 raised in a karaoke concert in aid of CLAN and Friends of Anchor through a Mansell fundraising project in 2007; £1,808 raised at my 53rd birthday party at Shelley Leighs; and other fundraising concerts with my karaoke singing friends, which have raised over £10,000 for local charities, including CLAN.
Since the beginning of 2009, I have been having reflexology treatments at CLAN and have always been impressed with their real commitment to helping those affected by cancer, and the wide range of support facilities they provide.
That is why I'm using this page to continue raising funds for this brilliant local charity. I hope you will all 'dig deep' so that we can do what we can to support CLAN to help them continue providing all these services in times to come, in their new premises. Many thanks to you all from Val, and from my lovely family, George, Adam, Leanne and Steph x
Post script: Sadly Val passed away on 15 September 2012 having shown exceptional spirit and courage throughout her long illness. Val was recognised for her warmth, humour and caring nature, always giving her time to others. Please give generously, if you can, so that CLAN can continue to offer comfort and support to those in need.
