Epilepsy
Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological disorders in the UK, with around 1 in every 100 people suffering from the disease. The disease is primarily categorised by the onset of seizures that start in the brain, although the severity of these seizures can range from very mild to extremely severe full body convulsions. The causes for this disease are still not well understood. The Epilepsy Society is the leading national epilepsy medical charity, and works on all aspects of epilepsy care and treatment, including supporting cutting-edge research into the disease, providing specialist residential care for those whose epilepsy is so severe and complex that they require round the clock support, and providing support and information for epilepsy sufferers, their friends and families, and the public at large. The work that they do is truly invaluable.
Despite the prevalence of this disease, many people do not know enough about the disease to know what to do if someone had a seizure. Would you know what to do? The Epilepsy Society strive to educate members of the public on what epilepsy is (and isn't). One of the biggest steps towards increasing awareness is to be open about the disease and to fight the stigma that remains attached to it. It is a frightening thought that there are many people who still consider epilepsy to be a form of demon possession. This charity means a lot to me personally as I am myself an epilepsy sufferer. Whilst I have been very lucky to find a treatment that works and allows me to live my life uninterrupted and continue to run, many others are not so lucky.
I hope that you will help us raise as much as possible for this fantastic cause!
So please dig deep and donate now.
