I'm Steve Cantillon - a Merseyside Police Officer since 1979 - currenty at the Driver Training Unit within the Academy. The happiest days of my career were spent walking the beats of Wallasey.  With this in mind, along with a group of colleagues, I intend to walk the entire Force area, calling at all 51 police stations en route. This will cover approximately 140 miles over 5 days, commencing 3rd June 2013 from Southport Police Station and concluding at Police Headquarters, Canning Place, Liverpool.

I will be with Mark Hobin, Jenny Slade, Robbie Williams, Andy Baines and supported by Paul Beardsworth, Barry Tomlinson and Andrea Richards.

Our motivation is simple - recently the Academy lost two very young, very dear colleagues and friends.

Jeanette McLaren was 50 years old and worked for Merseyside Police for 29 years till 2011 - where she worked as Secretary to the Head of the Academy.  She fought a long and difficult battle with cancer, but sadly died in October 2011, spending her final days at Woodlands Hospice, in Fazakerley.

Constable Lynton Davies served for 30 years, ending his career at The Academy, predominantly training new police recruits.  On retirement in 2011, Lynton pursued his ambition to become a PCV driver.  In July 2012, Lynton tragically and suddenyl died.  He left behind his wife Linzi and his children Adam, Evie, and twins Sam and Thomas.  Both twins received treatment at Alder Hey and Linzi and Lynton were able to use the facilities of Ronald McDonald House on site so they could live as a family and be with their children during the period of treatment.

We hope to raise a substantial sum to both organisations - all we ask is that each one of you help by donating to the causes to help both facilities continue their valuable work.
