Story
UNICEF Australia - Philippines Children’s Emergency Appeal
Category five Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines at 4.30am local time on Friday 8 November forcing millions of people to seek shelter. Latest estimates indicate up to 4 million children may have been impacted by the disaster.
The super typhoon ripped roofs off housing, uprooted trees and killed thousands of people.
As in any natural or man-made disasters, children are among those who suffer the most. UNICEF has launched an emergency response and is distributing therapeutic food, health kits and water and hygiene kits.
UNICEF is particularly concerned about the health of children and their families, due to the impact of the typhoon on water supply and sanitation systems.
Your fundraising and donations will help provide immediate relief to families and children affected by the disaster through the distribution of water purification tablets, soap, medical kits, tarpaulins, and micronutrient supplements.
If funds raised exceed amount needed for this appeal, funds will be used to help children in need across the world.
$140 can provide a basic family water kit for 10 families containing water purification tablets, soap and buckets.
$41 can provide emergency food rations to nourish children and families.
$93 can provide 7 heavy duty tarpaulin sets to shelter children who have lost their homes.
