Charity Week 2018 · 27 November 2018
Assalaamu Alaikum!
This year in charity week, the University of Birmingham Islamic society will be raising money towards the East Africa Emergency Appeal with As Suffa and Muslim Aid.
Charity week is a time when Islamic societies around the UK raise money towards worthwhile causes within the UK and abroad.
This long-standing tradition has been the means of facilitating some of our greatest contributions globally as Muslim students.
The people of Somalia, South Sudan, Nigeria and Yemen are suffering from one of the worst droughts in recent times. Food prices are rising, famine is occurring and violence is constantly at hand.
As-Suffa and Muslim Aid are working tirelessly to help the 20 million affected by ending their hunger, quenching their thirst and giving them hope. They're helping to send food parcels, make boreholes and set up mobile clinics to treat those affected by this crisis. 1.4 million children are now severely malnourished and are at serious risk of death and disease.
Additionally 20% of donations will be going to As-Suffa's campaign to tackle homelessness in the United Kingdom. Why? This is because of our responsibility to engage in charitable activities in the local communities we are living in which is often neglected.
Through your donations, we can help to make a difference to our brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering right now.
