Story
After a lot of vote counting we can finally announce that this year the Cardiff Twestival will be supporting.... Cardiff Foodbank! Below you will find information on the amazing work the Cardiff Foodbank does. Every single penny donated to this page will go to the charity along with all funds raised through the Twestival event.
Cardiff Foodbank is a part of the of The Trussell Trust’s network of over 90 charity foodbanks, including a growing number in Wales. Cardiff Foodbank has fed over 1200 people, including 500 children, since opening up their doors in May 2010. The foodbank helps both individuals and families who have suffered a crisis resulting in the inability to purchase food for themselves or their families. The crisis is caused by a sudden change in personal circumstances. All food is donated by the public and sorted by volunteers. Frontline care professionals such as doctors and social workers identify people in crisis and issue a food voucher. Clients receive three to five days of nutritionally balanced, non-perishable food in exchange for their food voucher and also signpost clients to other helpful services.
Ian Purcell, co-founder of Cardiff Foodbank told us a little bit about where the money raised by this years Twestival will go and how they will help the foodbank to continue to support the people of Cardiff.
"The numbers being fed are increasing month by month but for this to be sustained we need to find £800 per month (including £400 per month for the warehouse; £150 - £200 per month for a van to collect and deliver all donations of food; £200 per month for general office, insurance costs and other fees). Your donations will enable Cardiff Foodbank to feed those in a short term crises such as debt, redundancy and domestic violence, resulting in reduced crime, less homelessness and preventing family breakdown. Thanks for your support as together we fight hidden hunger and restore hope"
Co-founder Karen Purcell went on to say of their involvement with Cardiff Twestival:
"As co-founder of the Cardiff Foodbank, I am delighted that we are to be recipients of the fundraising endeavours of Cardiff Twestival 2011. We may no longer always know who lives next door, nor their struggles, as we used to but the Twestival is an exciting C21st way of being a good neighbour by helping Cardiff Foodbank to fight hidden hunger and restore hope."
Thank you once again for your support.
Cardiff Twestival Team.
