Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I'm asking for donations for a more unknown yet very important charity in the Twin and Multiples community. I came across Tamba when researching my high risk pregnancy and found a lot of useful information and support.
Multiple pregnancies make up only 3% of all pregnancies but contribute towards 6.5% of still births and 13.7% of neonatal deaths, which means that, devastatingly, at least one twin, triplet or quad doesn’t make it each day. Almost half of multiple births are born premature and this is a major contributing factor to the high death rates. Surviving preterm babies also face long term neurological damage and disabilities.
This is my journey. I never knew anything about twins bar the fact that there are identical and non identical twins. My arrogance in thinking twins would never happen to me proves the point!
So at my 12 week scan I experienced what I presume being punched in the stomach would feel like coupled with utter confusion, every emotion under the sun and sheer panic. I remember thinking: So there it is. I have no clue what is going to happen and I'm the least likely person capable of dealing with multiples. Then I started researching as I need more scans with my twins classed as Monochorionic/Diamniotic meaning Identical twins sharing a placenta but having their own amniotic sack (separate rooms but sharing a food larder). High risk pregnancy. Fun.
And then I stupidly looked it up and all that can go wrong in a pregnancy like mine. It turns out that I'm one of the lucky ones. My girls were fit and healthy at 36 weeks and needed no neonatal or other care. But there are so many others who haven't been so lucky. It's heartbreaking thinking I could have possibly come home with only one baby or even worse and reading some of the story's of loss are just too much.
Tamba is a charity devoted to twins and multiples in every way. They fund research into the complications in multiple pregnancies to better understand why things can go wrong. I feel compelled to give something back as I was tremendously lucky with mine and want to help families that weren't.
Please donate and make me get my not-so-running-fit butt around Henley's Half Marathon
Thanks,
Trish
