Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
In November 2013 we lost one of our close friends to a condition that is completely treatable. Postpartum Psychosis.
We are wanting to raise money and most importantly awareness for Post Partum Psychosis as our close friend took her life shortly after giving birth despite being diagnosed by the hospital.
The recent coverage on national TV and in the press has brought this subject to the forefront of the public mind, it has been in our minds since that tragic day in November when we lost our friend Rosy.
What we cannot get round our minds is how little was done to prevent and manage Rosy in her hours of need. After speaking to my mother who used to be a paediatric nurse many years ago, she states that this is an all to familiar story, and when she was first told about Rosy she was beyond doubt that this is what had happened.
We do not apportion blame on any nurses but more to the NHS and their superiors who do not have or give the funding to help women in this position. More money seems to be spent on those who waste time and money of the NHS and pay nothing back in to the system or society which is wrong and for another day and another battle.
This is why we think it is so important to raise awareness for people who are expecting, planning to conceive, or currently going through the troubles after birth that concern Partum Psychosis. We do not want anyone to have to deal with the pain of this manageable condition in its most destructive form.
As a group of friends we are more than aware what this can do and this is only through having suffered a loss, that in itself should not be the case. People need to be made aware of this during pregnancy, at antenatal classes, by nurses, midwifes. Dave, Rosy's partner, through not fault of his own, was not aware of the signs, nor was he equipped to deal with it as well as looking after the beautiful Laney. Rosy cried for help and her cries were not answered more dismissed.
We don't want this to happen to anyone else again, sadly I think it will, but our fundraising and awareness will go some way to helping prevent it continuing to go without people knowing what to do.
