Story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page/Gracias por visitar nuestra pagina de recaudacion de fondos

A team of friends, collaborators and advisors of Amigos de Sian Ka’an will venture into the ocean and attempt to complete the full Sacred Mayan Crossing, organized by Xcaret (http://www.travesiasagradamaya.com.mx).

Amigos de Sian Ka'an (ASK) is a non-profit, non-governmental Mexican organization that for the past 22 years has achieved huge successes and advances in the conservation of the Mexican Caribbean, such as the conservation of 1 million hectares through the generation of baseline data and establishment of 8 protected areas (6 of them being marine). One of the 3 programmes established within the 2020 Conservation and Development Strategic Planning is the Marine Conservation Programme, which includes Scientific research, Environmental Policies, Environmental Education and Community participation.

Scientific research has always been the base of ASK conservations actions, and since 2003, thanks to an alliance with Global Vision International (GVI), the coral reef research programme has been strengthened, increased and replicated in different areas. This collaboration has now proved invaluable and we have now gathered the most extensive database of its kind in the world.

Following the recent hurricane events in the Caribbean, it is necessary to evaluate the coral reef conditions in order to establish and promote conservation strategies and actions. In order to guarantee this vital monitoring programme, and as part of the International Year of the Reef, ASK and GVI's are launching a donation campaign that aims to obtain $10,000. These funds will guaranteed this year's monitoring programme and the design of the necessary conservation strategies
ASK thanks GVI in the support provided to the coral reef monitoring programme and to its funding campaigns.
