Story

FOLLOW THE HERD TO WEMBLEY!

It’s funny where life takes you. And I hope I can keep a smile on my face in August when I embark on a gruelling fundraising challenge on behalf of two great causes: Movember and Rugby League Cares.

On Monday August 20I’ll be joining 26 other people for the adventure of a lifetime, a 300-mile off-road cycle ride from Old Trafford, Manchester, to Wembley Stadium for the Rugby League Challenge Cup final.

Avoiding roads whenever and wherever possible, the route of the UK Red Ride to Wembley follows bridleways, forest trails, canal towpaths and, on the odd occasion, moors, ploughed fields and meadows as it wends its way south through the heart ofEngland.

I would never describe myself as a cyclist – I’ve been a bike owner for just a few short weeks! – and I know it’s going to be one of the toughest things I’ve ever done. But, strangely, I’m really looking forward to it, especially if all my friends and colleagues can get behind me.

I’ll be cycling alongside seven very fit (!) former Rugby League internationals, including Robbie Hunter-Paul, Gareth Ellis and Mick Cassidy: it’s a tough job, but someone has to do it!

As many of you know, I’m managing an exciting project for the Movember Foundation, the ManVan, a travelling interactive health and wellbeing hub that is tackling men’s health issues at major Rugby League matches this summer and autumn.

Working in partnership with the independent charity Rugby League Cares, we’re empowering men with the awareness, knowledge and resources to take positive action for their health, to achieve their fullest life potential and ultimately, to stop too many men dying too young.

I’m hoping to raise £2,000 which will be split between Movember and RL Cares to help both charities continue to do the amazing work they do.

Any support you can provide is really appreciated.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. And please remember to click Gift Aid – the
lovely people at HMRC add 25p for every pound you donate if you agree to Gift Aid.

Thanks in advance for your support!
