In April 2014 my granddad was diagnosed with terminal cancer. In June 2014 he gave me his bicycle to encourage me to exercise more with my partner Nick. In August 2014, my granddad sadly passed away.

The last message I ever received from my granddad mentioned how pleased he was that I had been out on the bike he gave me (only 10 miles but an achievement for not having ridden in over 10 years!) and that he wanted me to do more. 

The Marie Curie Nurses that supported my granddad when he needed them were incredible. I had seen the adverts before and respected their jobs, but I honestly did not understand the support and compassion they show to the patient and their family.  Their professionalism and care allow the patient to  keep their dignity at all times and that is so important. My granddad was in the Army and was proud of it- his dignity meant everything.

We are embarking on a bike ride from where my grandparents lived in Germany to the Tower of London, where my granddad worked for over 20years as a Yeoman Warder. It will be more than a 400mile trip and we are inviting people to join us at different points of the route to raise money and show support to the nurses that give so much to people that are suffering. We have not yet decided on a route as it is still in the early planning stage but I will update this page as soon as we have know.

It is so important to show these wonderful nurses that they are making a difference to those that need them and they have support. Please donate as much as you can because these people really do deserve it. I could not have asked for nicer, more professional nurses to care for a man I loved so very much.
