Story

We’re four golfers from West Yorkshire and are undertaking a 1150 mile cycle challenge this September in support of Melanoma UK.

We’re taking to the saddle for the Tour de Ryder Cup, cycling a route which takes in all thirteen Ryder Cup host venues in England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland. As part of our nine day challenge, we aim to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK and Melanoma UK, as well as raise awareness of the two diseases.

We’ll be setting off on 15th September, arriving at Gleneagles for the start of this year’s Ryder Cup tournament on 23rd September, and will be supported throughout by our friend Mark Heptonstall who will simultaneously act as our tour manager, roadie, fitness coach and tea boy!

The Tour de Ryder Cup was inspired by the death of our mutual friend Simon Ashdown, also a passionate golfer who, aged fifty, lost his battle with cancer in December 2012. Our epic road trip is being entirely self-funded and we are keen to hear from potential sponsors interested in supporting the tour and its twin cancer charities. Thank you so much for your support.

About the charity

Melanoma UK was set up in 2007 in memory of Jon Herron. We support patients and families affected by melanoma (skin cancer) and funds raised help to provide that support. We are funding much needed melanoma nurses along with help in vital research. Melanoma is a cruel disease, still without a cure.
