HSBC ANDEAN VOLCANO CHALLENGE · 1 March 2020
I need your support!
In March next year I am taking on the huge challenge of trekking 100km across Ecuador at an altitude of over 3000m 😱 for Mind. I have been selected to represent HSBC through a global initiative to raise awareness of mental health. I couldn't be more proud!
This will undoubtedly be the second most difficult thing I have ever done...
Now the tough part - a topic I have very rarely spoken about in 15 years. As a 16 year old I was late-diagnosed with a severe brain tumour. A horrendous recovery period followed including learning how to walk again and repairing my short term memory.
There were countless lows over the following years and, in retrospect, I am sure I suffered from a form of depression. If I had felt confident to speak up I believe this time would have been a lot easier for me.
But walk again I did!!
I am fortunate enough now to be in a position to use my experience for a good cause. We all feel low at points in our lives and I truly believe that speaking up helps. Don't be afraid to reach out.
Thank you to HSBC for this opportunity and especially to the people who encouraged me to do this. I am the luckiest guy in the world to have such amazing people around me.
