Story
On the 2nd November 2010, one of my friends and work colleague Simon Parker sadly passed away. Simon worked in radiology at Heartlands Hospital and quickly enough our respective love for sports meant we struck up a good friendship. We would often be found checking the cricket score on-line or discussing the recent rugby results. We would also share an almost daily joke about his "banana protector" or his briefcase.
Cruely Simon died after a fight against Lymphoma. As a tribute to the supreme optimism and bravery during Simon's lifetime, I decided to run the London Marathon in his memory. I just hope in some small way the money raised will help other people dealing with Cancer to be able to recieve great care and support in whatever manner they need. This is why all monies raised will be donated to the Oncology Department, Ward 19 at Heartlands Hospital.
Simons wife Becky has written a short piece about how special Simon was to her. I felt that although I knew him as a friend, Becky could give you an idea of the great loss Simon will be in our lives.
Simon was not only my husband but also my best friend and soul mate, who I miss very dearly.
Simon was an inspiration to everyone who met him, and always had a positive outlook on life, even when he was really poorly.
The last few weeks of Simons life, was the hardest thing I have ever had to cope with, seeing a once strong healthy man, deteriorate before my eyes. His spirit was so strong, even with his last breaths.
Simon has sure left a legacy behind him, which hopefully will encourage everyone no matter how tough life gets, to be strong and positive.
Rebecca Parker (his loving wife) xx
