Story
190 miles in 12 days over challenging country – that is the target we have set ourselves!
Five friars including me will be undertaking the gruelling coast-to-coast trek across England, passing through the challenging terrain of the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales and Moors between 24 July and 6 August, 2014.
We are fundraising for the training of new brothers in our religious order. The Dominican Friars have seen a surge in vocations in recent years, and as a consequence the costs of training these young men in Cambridge then Oxford over 7 years before priestly ordination has exceeded our funds. There is a £1 million gap to fill, so we are donning our walking boots to kickstart our fundraising campaign!
Two of us on the walk are in formation, Samuel Burke and me. The others have already completed their formation and the ones who keep on going on about how expensive we are to train; so any money you can give so that we don't have to put up with any more "you're bankrupting us with all your eating" comments would be appreciated. Along the way a very kind couple from the congregation of Blackfriars, Cambridge, will provide us with back-up from their camper van – offering blister plasters, tea and coffee, and perhaps the occasional nip of something stronger! We are inviting others to join us for all or part of the route, as well as to sponsor us through this JustGiving page!
